Moss Family History: John Moss II, 1650 - 1717
John II was the ninth child of eleven born to John I and Goody. He was born Oct. 13, 1650 in New Haven and he was married Dec. 12, 1676 to Martha Lothrop who was the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Scudder Lothrop and grand-daughter of Rev. John Lothrop who came to America on the ship "Griffin" Sept. 18, 1634. The Rev. Lothrop died in Barnstable, Massachusetts on November 8, 1653. His grave is in Wallingford near that of the first John Moss. John II was among the first settlers in Wallingford where he took an active part in civic affairs as his father had. His homestead was first known as the Old Moss Place and later as the Moses Y Beach Place, still later, St. George's Inn in Wallingford. He owned a farm on Ten Mile Hill, one at Honey Pot and one at Busby Hill, over 500 acres in all. He died on March 31, 1717. The estate was then administered by his widow.
